Three cds feature the redoutable Italian pianist Francesco Libetta. He first offers the recital so enthusiastically reviewed as a DVD just as impressive only heard as seen and heard (VAIA 1209) … On the second the tackles Beethoven's "Diabelli" Variations (VAIA 1208). His rhythmic militancy is effective (..) technically superb (..). The third disc, recorded "live" at the Miami International Piano Festival (2001/2002) contains duo-piano literature played by Libetta and three pianists (VAIA 1212). With Pietro De Maria, he offers Mozart's Sonata in D, K 448 and two little works of his own, Souls - an effective atmospheric wisp with a non-sequitor ending - and an arrangement of Rimsky's Flight of the Bumblebee. With Kemal Gekic, he plays an impressive reading of Liszt's four-hands arrangement of his symphonic poem Orpheus, and with Ilya Itin, Rachmaninov's First Suite for Two Pianos, Op. 5 and Italian Polka, in well nuanced, virtuosistic performances.
